Melanite is a black titanium bearing variety of andradite and demantoid is a rich green variety.
Malaya is a trade name for a pyrope-spessartite that varies in color from red, through shades of orange and brownish orange to peach and pink.

Chloromelanite has been used to describe a dark green to black variety of jadeite (Tröger, 1967; Hobbs, 1982); mineralogically, it is a solid solution of roughly equal amounts of jadeite, diopside, and aegirine (Jackson, 1997).

It occurs in a wide variety of colors, including green of high intensity (so-called Imperial Jade), white, mottled green and white, violet, brown, orangey-red, yellow and grayish-green. The black to dark-green variety is known as chloromelanite.

Comments: very high dispersion not usually suitable for jewelry, varieties as demantoid, melanite and topazolite usually have gem qualities.

Although it is often used in similar ways, maw-sit-sit is not a variety of jade.

Some of the colors are given variety, folk or trade names such as Imperial, apple green, moss-in-snow or chloromelanite.

The green - black variety is called ‘chloromelanite’, derived from the Greek ‘chloros’ meaning green and ‘melas’ meaning black.
The healing properties of these other types of jade are different for each color.

Some Other Varieties are Andradite, Essonite, Tsavorite, Spessartite, Melanite, Allochroite, Ouvarovite and Demantoid. This stone has a long history of use as a medicine stone and was used for healing blood and lung diseases.

Appearance
Yellowish-green (topazolite), emerald-green (demantoid), to blackish (melanite). Demantoid is the most valuable, and one of the rarest gemstones.
Enhancements
Andradite grossular garnet is not enhanced.

This is the variety chloromelanite and is characterised by containing a large percentage of iron, replacing in part its aluminium.

* Melanite - lustrous, opaque black or dark red variety of Andradite.

Named varieties of Garnet include Andradite, Tsavorite, Grossularite, Essonite, Pyrope, Almandine, Spessartite, Melanite, Allochroite, Ouvarovite, Demantoid, and Rhodolite.

Garnet Stones are available in varieties named Grossularite, Pyrope, Almandine, Rhodalite, Andradite, Essonite, Tsavorite, Spessartite, Melanite, Allochroite, Ouvarovite and Demantoid.

These precious gemstones were name after the seeds of a pomegranate. Some variations of garnets include Allochroite, Almadine, Andradite, Demantoid, Essonite, Grossularite, Melanite, Ouvarovite, Pyrope, Rodalite, Spessartite, and Tsavorite.

Demantoid has been called the "emerald of the Urals" from its occurrence there, and is one of the most prized of garnet varieties. Topazolite is a golden yellow variety and melanite is a black variety.
