Micromosaic: An ancient Roman mosaic craft created by using minute pieces of colored glass or stone, called tesserae (tiles), applying up to 1,400 per square inch.
MICROMOSAIC Micromosaics are pictures or decorations that are made out of extremely small pieces (tiles) of stone, glass or other materials. Italian micromosaics were common souvenirs.

Micromosaic: An object decorated with many small adjacent pieces (tesserae) of inlaid multi-colored glass or stone arranged to form a picture or design.
Pietra Dura - Similar to Micromosaics, except that the piece is made of larger pieces of hard stone such as chalcedony, jasper, etc, in a background of black marble.
Tessarae: Pieces of stone, glass, or ceramic tile that are mounted in mortar to make a mosaic. See also: Micromosaics.
