millimeter A metric measurement of distance. A standard measuring increment in the trade for describing outer dimensions of a diamond. A millimeter is 1/1000 of a meter.

Millimeter - The unit of measure used to determine the diameter and measurements of a pearl. The millimeter is also used to measure gemstones other than diamonds below ½ carat.

Millimeter: Unit of measure in the metric system used to determine a pearl's diameter, equal to about 1/25th of an inch.

Millimeter: The metric measurement used to determine the size of a pearl. One mm equals 1/25 of an inch.
Momme: The weight measurement for pearls in Japan. One momme equals 3.75 grams, or 18.7 carats.

Millimeters are to pearls what carat weight is to diamonds! Cultured pearls are measured in millimeters; rounds by their diameter, baroques by their length and width.

Millimeter: A metric measurement of length used to determine a pearl's size. A millimeter is expressed as "mm," whereby one "mm" equals 1/25 of an inch. The millimeter is also used to measure gemstones other than diamonds below ½ carat.

Millimeters, which is abbreviated MM, is a metric measurement used for pearls, diamonds & gemstones.
Mine Cut
Mine cut stones have a cushion-shaped girdle. This type of cut was popular in the late 1800's.

The total height in millimeters from the table to the begin of the damaged culet is measured (Fig 399). This measurement AB = 58 % is taken to calculate a new girdle diameter according to the formula:
R Ø = height(up to damage) x 100/58 ...

sandstone A clastic rock composed of particles that range in diameter from 1/16 millimeter to 2 millimeters in diameter. Sandstones make up about 25% of all sedimentary rocks.

~Size - Cultured pearls are measured by their diameter in millimeters. They can be smaller than one millimeter, in the case of seed pearls, or as large as 20 millimeters for a big South Sea pearl.

Millimeter (mm.), a measure of distance in the Metric system. 1 inch is defined as 25.4 millimeters. The metric system is the standard used in the jewelry industry, by gemologists, and by science worldwide.

For a round diamond, gemologists calculate table percentage by dividing the diameter of the table, which is measured in millimeters (this millimeter measurement does not appear on diamond grading reports) by the average girdle diameter (an average ...

Pearls are readily available in sizes up to about eight and a half millimeters. Akoya oysters also produce other shapes of Pearls.

The stone can also be measured in millimeter diameter size. Because the cubic zirconia stone is so dense and solid, it outweighs a diamond of the same millimeter size, weighing 1.7 times more than a diamond of the same millimeter diameter.

Size : The size of pearls is articulated in terms of the diameter and the unit used is millimeters (mm). It is measured in two ways.

Over the years, various mines in the area have produced thousands of kilograms of rock crystal, with some of the individual crystals weighing as much as 275 kilograms and many of the crystals measuring more than 600 millimeters in length and 250 ...

It might seem, at first thought, that all 6 millimeter round gems would weigh about the same, but there are two important factors which greatly affect individual gem weight: 1) the density of the material (its weight per unit), and 2) the ...

For example, a 7x5 millimeter oval-cut sapphire weighs approximately one carat, a 7x5 millimeter oval-cut topaz weighs approximately 0.70 to 0.80 carats and a 7x5 millimeter oval-cut zircon weighs approximately 1.20 to 1.50 carats.

The width of the Great Chrysanthemum diamond is twenty-five millimeters and lengthwise it measures around thirty-nine millimeters. The depth of this unusual diamond comes around 16.2mm.

A pearl is measured in millimeters, typically perpendicular to its drill hole. Because no pearl is perfectly round, the measurement generally reflects a range. For example, a pearl measuring 6.6 millimeters in one part and 6.

The units in which diamond indentation hardness is recorded are therefore kilograms per millimeter squared (kg/mm2).

All weights are given in carats, and all measurements in millimeters. Dimensions should be measured as accurately as possible using a precision gauge (such as the Leveridge gauge displayed here).

5-millimeters in diameter. Akoya (saltwater) pearls greater than 8 millimeters are considered extremely rare and valuable, and the largest pearl an Akoya oyster can produce is around 9 or 10 millimeters in diameter.

For stones that are less than ½ carat in weight, per-carat-price is set on their size in millimeters. Another important factor is the rate at which price per carat increases or decreases.

cleanliness (absence of spots, bumps or cracks); shape (generally, the rounder the pearl, the higher its value); color (pearls come in virtually every hue of the rainbow, and a few others, too); and size (the average pearl sold is 7-7.5 millimeters, ...

Bugle Beads Bugle beads are thin tubular shaped glass beads manufactured in lengths from 2 millimeters to 35 millimeters and a width of 1-2 mm. Bugle beads can be threaded into jewelery or glued to fabric as decoration.

In order to determine a diamond's size, the carat weight of the stone should be weighed in conjunction with the diamond's diameter in millimeters and the diamond's cut grade.

This should include the shape, millimeter dimensions, carat weight, color, clarity and cutting grades. The critical element is to have a plotted diagram- a blueprint of the diamond.

Band widths are given in millimeters on the detail pages but may vary by up to 5% due to the casting method and hand finishing process.

Depth Percentage (%): There are two different measurements of a diamond's depth - the actual depth in millimeters and the depth percentage, which expresses how deep the diamond is in comparison to how wide it is.

Because the cubic zirconia is so dense and solid, it outweighs a diamond of the same millimeter size, weighing 1.7 times more than a diamond of the same millimeter diameter. We use the CZ weight in MBM copy, not the equivalent diamond weight.

higher value. Pearls are measured in diameter increments of millimeters (mm). The classic Akoya pearl generally ranges from 3mm to 10mm. South Sea pearls begin at 8mm and can grow as large as 18mm.

Micro Pave' is very similar to Pave' except extremely small stones are used, in some cases less than 1 millimeter. This work is usually done with the aid of a microscope and sometimes with a laser tool for ultra fine finishing detail.

Gauge can be a misleading measurement, because the higher the gauge, the thinner the jewelry. A 22-gauge nose ring is 0.5 millimeters, which is approximately the size of an earring post. A 14-gauge belly ring is 1.6 millimeters.

Formulas...For weight estimation based on measurements in millimeters to 1/10. assuming well cut stones with little or no bulge factor. Some formulas for various gem cuts.
Fracture...A break with an uneven or irregular surface.

Depth Percentage: Typically measured in millimeters, depth percentage refers to the ratio of depth (culet to table) to diameter. Each cut has a different ideal depth percentage.

Gauges can be converted into millimeters or inches, to help people of different nationalities to recognise different types of measurement.

So, if a diamond's girdle measures 10 millimeters, the table measures 5.6 mm, and the total depth measurement is 6.25 mm, it would have a table of 56% and a depth of 62.5%. What percentages will yield an ideal cut vary from shape to shape.

The depth of the pavilion in millimeters expressed as a percentage of the average diameter.
Pinpoints
Very small inclusions in a diamond.

Size. Cultured pearls are sold by diameter, measured in millimeters. In general, the larger the size, the more costly the cultured pearl.

Large pearls must remain in the mollusk longer, thus incurring a higher investment cost. Pearls are measured in millimeters (mm). Freshwater pearls range from 3mm to 12mm, and Tahitian pearls range from 8mm to 18mm or larger.

Micron
A micron is a unit of length equal to 0.001 mm (millimeter).

Most of it is mined in Australia. Very fine chrysoprase beads if they are 8 millimeters or more in size will be in the moderate price range for a strand. Very large or very exceptional ones could be more.
