Purification
The use of silicon in semiconductor devices demands a much greater purity than afforded by metallurgical grade silicon.

The metal has become very popular in men's jewelry and wedding bands because it is scratch-resistant, has a mirror finish when buffed, is tarnish-resistant and extremely strong.
