We've all seen the work of modernist designers, perhaps without knowing it, but it can be hard to define just what makes their work 'modern'.

The Modern Round Brilliant Cut
The modern "Round Brilliant Cut" (below) was developed by Belgian diamond-cutter Marcel Tolkowsky in 1919. This cut is also known as the "Tolkowsky Cut" and "Tolkowsky Brilliant.

Modern 2 carat Cushion Cut Diamonds are also known as Candlelight Diamonds. These diamonds have look that bring forth romanticism because of its natural shine and beauty.

The Modern Birthstone list is the official birthstone list from the American National Association of Jewelers, Jewelers of America. These gemstones were officially adopted in 1912. In the US, this is the accepted list.

It started out with relatively delicate designs, and progressed to a more bold and blocky style also called Art Moderne. Art DecoArt Deco was a style popular from the mid-1910's until the mid-1920's. This style originated in Paris, France.

This art movement eventually became bolder and evolved into Art Moderne. Art NouveauArt Nouveau was a style popular from roughly 1895 until World War I.
