Moissanite
Moissanite, an extremely rare natural occurring mineral scientifically known as Silicon carbide is a compound made of ceramic components of silicon and carbon that is feigned on a bulk scale for utilizing essentially as an abrasive.

Moissanite is said to be a rival to all other gemstone because of its brilliance, hardness, weight and scratch resistance.

Moissanite
Chemical composition -- Silicon carbide.
Color -- Near colorless, usually slightly greenish or grayish.

I found out unwittingly that Moissanite doesn't have a lovely appearance when it comes out of the kiln. It basically looks like graphite and has the luster of corduroy.

Moissanite
Moissanite is a very hard mineral that was discovered by Dr. Ferdinand Henri Moissan (1852-1907), a French chemist and Nobel Prize winner (Moissan did work on synthesizing diamonds and discovered carborundum in 1891).

Moissanite
Moissanite is a silicon carbide similar to diamond in several ways. Naturally occurring moissanite is extremely rare within the Earth. In 1998, C3, Inc.

Moissanite: Moissanite as a substitute of diamond arrived with a bang in the gem world. This synthetic silicon carbide crystal was discovered by scientists at North Carolina State University.

Moissanite - Unique, lab-created gemstones reproduce the fire and brilliance of stones found in small portions inside meteorites. Their brilliance, fire and luster surpass other gemstones.

Moissanite A lab-created diamond simulant based on the structure of natural moissanite. On Mohs' scale of hardness, moissanite is 9.5. It has more brilliance, fire and luster than any hard jewel on earth, including diamond.

moissanite A synthetic silicon carbide developed by Moissan. A popular diamond imitation that is harder than corundum (9), but not as hard as diamond (10).

Moissanite: This is the latest contender, and like CZ, it is hard (9.5), and not so overly dispersive as to be obvious. It will pass a thermal conductivity test as diamond, but its electrical conductivity will invariably identify it.

Moissanite
A man-made gemstone that closely resembles a diamond. It is only slightly less hard and can mimic almost all of the diamond's other qualities.

Moissanite
Named after its discovered Dr. Henri Moissan and is similar to Diamonds as it is also transparent and hard (9) but has a higher refractive index.

Moissanite is originally born from a star, though the crystals on earth were far too small to make anything with.
Synthetic moissanite was recently introduced and is still popular, though very costly.

Moissanite
This is the one that was featured on 60 Minutes & 20-20 and fooled almost every jeweler tested. Without special testing equipment, distinguishing it from a natural diamond, is very difficult if not impossible.

Moissanite: In 1995, a US company developed synthetic moissanite from silicon carbide crystals, as the mineral is extremely rarely found naturally and was originally discovered in meteorite fragments. Moissanite costs one-tenth that of a diamond.

Moissanite is a synthetic that provides the gem trade with the best of both worlds. To the naked eye, moissanite is virtually indistinguishable from diamond.

Moissanite
A man made diamond substitute frequently mistaken for diamond. It does not occur as a natural stone.

Moissanite: A lab-created gemstone based on the structure of natural moissanite, which is linked to meteorites. Similar in look to a diamond, but moissanite has more brilliance, fire and luster than any hard jewel - including diamonds.

Diamond, CZ or Moissanite?
Diamond lookalikes can fool you
This does not happen too much in the U.S., but when you go overseas or to the Caribbean isles, there are no laws protecting the consumer. Some diamond lookalikes can fool you.

The most familiar diamond simulant to most consumers is cubic zirconia (commonly abbreviated as CZ); recently moissanite has also gained popularity and has often been mischaracterized as a diamond simulant, ...

Now a new synthetic material, moissanite, is able to fool some of the instruments used to differentiate between cubic zirconia and real diamond.

The moissanite is a mineral created by a laboratory as a good diamond replacement stone. It was introduced into the market in the 1990s. It has become the choice of some for their fine jewelry collection.

The only material used to fabricate diamonds today, which is harder than cubic zircon is synthetic Moissanite ; a silicon carbide that is very durable and can be highly polished to look like a real diamond.

It is ineffective in separating synthetic moissanite from diamond, but reliable for other simulants. An interesting but far less reliable test relying on the same property, the "breath test", has also been used for the same purpose.

For more money there is Moissanite, a very beautiful stone that is also man-made. Moissanite is best set in yellow gold; it has the sparkle, but is slightly yellow compared to a good quality diamond.

If you have NO Flaws in the Diamond (as in a Flawless Diamond), you'll have a very difficult time telling that Diamond from a Fake Diamond or even a man-made Diamond (like Moissanite).
