Internal Needles (Ndl) or needle inclusions are naturally occurring rutile-like needle shaped inclusions within the diamond.

How Needles Are Made
The sequence below details the modern method of producing needles.

NEEDLE:
A very fine, light, elongated inclusion that is usually totally enclosed within the diamond. Needle inclusions are generally more subdued than feather inclusions.

Needles: The crystal or mineral inclusions in the shape of long thin needles are referred as needle flaws. In few cases, these can be of different colour that is clearly visible in the colourless Diamond.

TESTING STONE AND NEEDLES - A set of tools used to test the gold content of a particular item. A black stone is streaked with the item and several gold tip needles of various karat values.

If touched by a hot needle, amber releases a sweet, resinous odor. In contrast, plastic substitutes have an acrid odor.

A chatelaine clip clip is fastened to the waist, and various items such as needle cases, pencil, scissors, dangle from chains attached to it. Chatelaines may be utilitarian or beautifully decorated and made from precious materials like silver.

Taper: a cone shaped, needle-like object used to stretch piercings while gauging or stretching.
An instrument used to enlarge the diameter of piercings.
Usually consists of a stainless steel rod whose diameter gradually decreases along its length.

Amber may contain insects, moss, lichen, or pine needles that were trapped millions of years ago while the resin was still sticky. Found in the Baltic region of Poland and the former USSR.

Needle: A minute crystal that is an inclusion in certain varieties of gemstones. The crystal looks like a needle.

Star sapphire is the result of reflection of light from fine, oriented, rutile needles. Like star ruby, star sapphires may be heat treated to high temperatures to dissolve the rutile and produce blue sapphires of good clarity.

Magnetic Therapy is also readily accepted by those people who hate needles or have difficulty with oral medicines. This natural therapy is highly recommended for remedial purposes that involve applying pulsed or static Magnets to the body.

Acicular - Needle-shaped. Generally very slender crystals, often in clusters.
Adamantine - Having a diamond-like luster. The brightest luster in minerals.
Aesthetic Specimen - A mineral specimen displaying an exceptionally attractive form.

This manmade gemstone is a very pretty mixture of clear glass with thin swirls and needles of pink. Cherry "quartz" boasts the pink cherry color that sold very well in 2003 and 2004.

This phenomenon is caused by very fine needles of rutile. And now and then one of the rare star rubies is found.

' Crystal aggregates resembling long, slender needles, hair, or thread are termed 'acicular,' filiform,' 'capillary,' or 'fibrous.

Some sapphires contain unusual tiny needle-like inclusions, and are cut in a cabochon shape to display a dancing six-rayed white star. Star sapphires, which are becoming more rare, are very popular for men's rings.

If there are no rutile needles within a cabochon sapphire you will only see color and not the phenomenon of a star. Stars have been used in jewelry for as long as sapphires have been cut.

It is unique in that is has needle-like inclusions that align to produce a white 4-rayed star asterism (see Asterism, Part 1), and sometimes needle-like surface crystalline inclusions are also visible.

The most common types of inclusions include crystals, tiny bubbles representing small minerals that were absorbed into the diamond while it was growing; pinpoints, crystals so tiny that they only appear as little dots under 10x magnification; needles, ...

In corundum (ruby and sapphire), rutile is arranged in densely paced bundles of crisscrossing needles. If plentiful enough, these needles reflect light in such a manner as to give the stone a special silken sheen, commonly known as asterism.

Included crystals of zircon, and related stress fractures (or halos) are sometimes seen.

Needle: A thin and short crystal that looks like a rod.
Cloud: Several pinpoints lying together across various planes.
Feather: a break in a gemstone that extends from the surface to the interior, often white and feathery in appearance.

Rutilated quartz is a transparent rock crystal (quartz) embedded with golden needles of rutile. The inclusions are sometimes called Venus hair, and they are often so thin and golden, that it's almost hard to imagine that this is purely natural.

Sapphire often contains minor inclusions of tiny, slender Rutile needles. When present, these inclusions decrease the transparency of a stone and are known as silk.

rutilated quartz - rutile (roo'til) are needlelike crystals, transparent to opaque brownish to red to black mineral of a higher refractive index than diamond that occurs in a variety of minerals.

Once the straw/magnet/needle assembly are in balance try waiving a magnetic mineral up and down in front of the magnet end. Even slightly magnetic minerals will invoke some motion in the balance arm.
