Noble Metals
The terms Base and Noble as applied to metals refer to the chemistry of metal. Base metals are relatively abundant and tend to oxidize or corrode relatively easily; some examples include iron, nickel, copper and titanium.

It may sound a bit of a surprise, but the jewelry is not made of pure noble metals as in their original state they don't often have the necessary properties. For instance, gold is too soft to work with.

Platinum is the noblest of the noble metals. Platinum is a white, hard and very dense metal. Platinum is usually alloyed with Iridium (90% Plat. and 10% Iridium) and more recently Cobalt is being used in Platinum alloys.

Some craftsmen also call them the noble metals. Roman GoldA finish on gold jewelry produced by matting or frosting the surface, then electroplating it with pure gold. This provides a soft matte finish with a rich yellow color.
