Oligoclase

Jewelry Old mine cutOlivelia shells

Oligoclase is not a well known mineral but has been used as a semi-precious stone under the names of sunstone and moonstone. Sunstone has flashes of reddish color caused by inclusions of hematite.

Oligoclase is a very common mineral, but it is rare in nice crystals. Masses of Moonstone Oligoclase come from Spruce Pine, Mitchell Co., North Carolina. Well-shaped white and colorless crystals were found in the Hawk Mine, Mitchell Co.

Oligoclase is common in granite, syenite, diorite and gneiss. It is a frequent associate of orthoclase.

Oligoclase: (Also called Plagioclase) A triclinic feldspar made of soda-lime.
Olivelia Shells: A kind of seashell used for Heishi necklaces.
Olivine: See Chrysolite and Peridot.

Oligoclase occurs as massive specimens and is a common mineral in the surrounding country rock.

Aventurine FeldsparAventurine feldspar is also called Sunstone (a variety of oligoclase). This gemstone varies from golden to orange to red-brown, and can be transparent or translucent.

Plagioclase: Another name for Oligoclase.
Platinum: One of the three "precious metals" along with gold and silver, platinum is the rarest of them all.

Another name for Oligoclase.
Plating
Plating or electroplating (also called Galvanotechnics after its inventor, Luigi Galvani) is a process in which one metal is coated with another metal using electricity.

Sunstone: A variety of oligoclase which can be transparent or translucent and varies in color from golden to orange to red-brown. Sunstone glitters due to hematite or goethite crystals suspended in the stone.

Sunstone is a species of feldspar called "oligoclase" or known sometimes in the jewelry industry as "adventurine feldspar". In addition, sunstone contains small hematite crystals that give it additional sparkle. The sparkle is known as aventuresence ...

Adularia is a common type of moonstone, Oligoclase is another type of moonstone, Labradorite and albite are rare forms.

Sunstone is a member of the plagioclase feldspar group of minerals and occurs in the compositional range of oligoclase, labradorite and andesine. Orthoclase sunstones are also known.

Moonstone was very popular early in the 20th century and was extensively used in Art Nouveau jewelry. Adularia is a common type of moonstone. Oligoclase is another type of moonstone and labradorite and albite are rare the forms.

Moonstone has a hardness of 6 and a specific gravity of 2.57. It is monoclinic; it has one two-fold axis of symmetry. Adularia is a common type of moonstone. Oligoclase is another type of moonstone; Labradorite and albite are rare forms.

The sodium-rich (albite) and the calcium-rich (anothite) form a continuous series of what is known as the "plagioclase" feldspars. The ratios are as follows: Albite (100) - Anorthite( 0) Albite Albite ( 90) - Anorthite( 10) oligoclase Albite ( 70) - ...
