A lovely blue translucent common opal called Andean or Peruvian opal is found in the Andes mountains near San Patricio, Peru. Copper may be the essential trace element that causes its soft distinctive color.

A relatively rare translucent stone with a color similar to the ocean in tropical waters, Peruvian Opal is found only in the Andes Mountains. It is the national stone of Peru.

Cabochon (Cab) - A gemstone cut with a rounded top (dome) and a flat bottom. They're often either round or oval, but can be other shapes as well. The stone in the photo on the left is an oval Pink Peruvian Opal cabochon.
