Pink beryl. Named for J. Pierpont Morgan, whose gem collection now resides primarily in the American Museum of Natural History in New York City. Pale stones are abundant and inexpensive.

Morganite (Pink Beryl)
The pink, rose, peach and violet varieties of Beryl are known under the name Morganite for their presence of manganese and are named after the American banker and gem enthusiast J. Pierpoint Morgan.

Morganite, or pink beryl as it was initially described, was discovered in Madagascar in 1911.

Also known as pink beryl, rose beryl, pink emerald, and cesian beryl, this light pink to rose colored gemstone was named for financier and gem aficionado J.P. Morgan.

Morganite is the pink variety of beryl. Like its blue cousin aquamarine, it is a durable stone with soft color.

But the ultimate demonstration of Kunz’s power came a few years later with the discovery of a new pink beryl in San Diego County soon after named morganite by Kunz for tycoon J.P. Morgan.

Because of its color, this mineral is sometimes also known as "pink beryl." The name derives from the American collector John Pierpont Morgan. Among other countries, the stone's principal sources include Afghanistan, Brazil, and China.
