Prasiolite
The name "prasiolite" has been originated from Greek words. The words "Prason" and "Lithos" stands for 'leek" and from these two words comes the stone name 'prasiolite".

Prasiolite is a gem with which one can really be confused. It is traded with variety of names and sometimes mistaken with expensive gems like Green Beryl, Peridot and Tourmaline.
PRASIOLITE
Overview: Prasiolite is also known as Vermarine, and is quite simply Green Quartz. Prasiolite does not occur naturally. It is produced by heating Amethyst or Citrine from certain Brazilian localities.
Prasiolite, also spelled praziolite is the green form of quartz, formed by iron content and heat. Prasiolite is also called vermarine. Prasiolite is the result of heat treating amethyst and citrine from sources in Brazil and Arizona.
The green variety of quartz, green amethyst is also known as vermarine, green quartz, and lime citrine or by its gemological name, prasiolite. Although reasonably affordable, it is unusual and remains a collector’s gemstone.

Vermarine or Prasiolite
There is green quartz called 'Greened' amethyst or Vermarine also known as Prasiolite having light to medium color. It is produced by careful heating of Brazilian amethyst.
In regards to my cordierite article in the January/February 1998 issue of the New Mexico Facetor, I wish to clarify the spelling on both "praseolite" and "prasiolite".

This gemstone wins high "prase" from the gem community. A dull green chalcedony (quartz), it is a darker, more translucent form of chrysoprase.
Amethyst, aventurine, rock crystal, blue quartz, citrine, hawk's-eye, prasiolite, quartz cat's-eye, smoky quartz, rose quartz, and tiger's-eye fall into this category.
At higher temperatures amethyst converts to yellow or orange citrine or, rarely, to yellow-green prasiolite.
