SILVER PURITY:
Like gold, pure silver or fine silver is relatively soft and pliable. Because of this, fine jewelry can be easily damaged if created from pure silver.

Purity of Gold
Gold used in jewellery is never pure - other metals are added to it before making ornaments. The amount of metal mixed into pure gold reduces its purity and "Karat" measures the resultant purity of the gold.

Purity
Pure gold is too soft for everyday wear, so it is alloyed with a mixture of metals like silver, copper, nickel, and zinc to give it strength and durability.

Purity & Hallmarks
While there are accepted purity hallmarks for 850, 900, 950, and 999 parts per 1000, the majority of our platinum jewellery is 95 percent pure platinum combined with 5 percent iridium, palladium, ruthenium or other alloys.

Silver Purity
In its pure form silver is almost as soft as gold, and therefore is usually alloyed with copper for strength. Karatage is not marked because, legally, anything called "silver" or "sterling silver" is 92.5% pure.
