The name “rhodolite' is taken from the Greek rho’don and lithos, which literally translate to “rose stone.

Rhodolite Garnets are pretty universal, and probably one of the most well know Garnets.This material typically has carbon spots, bubbles and a little silk.

Rhodolite garnet, a mix of pyrope and almandine, is found in light to dark pink to purplish red, even grape. Malaya--a rare garnet blend of pyrope and spessartine that is found only in Tanzania--comes in extraordinary bright light orange shades.

Rhodolite Garnet is the foremost garnet in the red garnet series. Not to be confused with the ubiquitous Pyrope dark red garnet usually associated with much estate jewelry, this gorgeous purple, pink red garnet is a beautiful gemstone.

Rhodolite Garnet is a mixed crystal of Pyrope and Almandine. This variety of Garnet is hugely popular and has a fantastic raspberry red undertone.

You may be surprised to learn that garnets are found in every color except blue, including brilliant green tsavorite garnet, raspberry pink rhodolite garnet, and orange malaya garnet. Bright red "anthill" garnets are found in Arizona.

Rhodolite garnet is a mixture of pyrope and almandite. Named after the beautiful violet red to pink red color of the rhododendron flower, the rhodolite garnet is an unusually beautiful color.

--Large deposits of almandite and rhodolite garnet of gem and abrasive quality are known in Clay, Jackson, Macon, Madison, and Burke Counties.

Garnets are found in every color except blue, including brilliant green tsavorite garnet, raspberry pink rhodolite garnet, and orange malaya garnet.

Most commonly found in round, oval, and cushion cuts. Availability depends on variety: tsavorite is very difficult to find in sizes above a carat or two, while rhodolite garnet is available in larger sizes.

The Rhodolite garnets that are available in a range of pink to purplish red and hugely mined in many places of India, srilanka and Africa are most popular and most commonly used on jewelleries.

As was suggested above, however, there is a great tendency to blend and this is well illustrated by the magnificent rhodolite garnets, of rhododendron hue which were found in Macon County, North Carolina.

Rhodolite is quite available in small sizes which are relatively low in price. Very fine large rhodolite garnets are rare and are moderate in price. Top quality pink rhodolites are mined in Sri Lanka, Tanzania and Zimbabwe.

Rhodolite garnets glitter brilliantly due to their high refractive index. It is a hardy stone, rating 7 to 7.5 on the Mohs Scale. As a garnet, it is also considered to be January's birthstone.
