Star Rubies are a rare variety of the gemstone Ruby.

Ruby is said to preserve the health of the wearer and is associated with passion. There are numerous legends about the gem stone Ruby.

RUBY:
A red precious gemstone. The birthstone for July. Color can range from hot pink to deep, blood red. Lab-created rubies are often attempted to pass for genuine- a genuine stone can usually only be deciphered by an experienced gemologist.

Ruby is mined throughout Southeast Asia. While Thailand and Myanmar (Burma) produce exquisite examples of this gemstone that the ancient Sinhalese people called "Ratnaraj," the King of Gems.

Ruby is the red manifestation of corundum; all other colors of corundum are referred to as sapphire. Due to its durability, brilliance and bewitching red color, it has for thousands of years been considered to be one of the most valuable gemstones.

Ruby mining in Burma was initially restricted to alluvial deposits, but now also involves mining the marble in the surrounding hills.
