The line between what constitutes a "precious" or "semiprecious" gemstone has more to do with historical context than any objective measure of its current value.

Any stone that is not classified as precious (Diamond, Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald and precious Opal are the precious gemstones).
Semiprecious gem: At one time, this category was reserved for all gems other than diamonds, emeralds, rubies, and sapphires. Like the category of precious gems, this term is seldom used today.

Aquamarine is a semiprecious gemstone, named so for its light to medium seawater blue color. Its color actually ranges from light blue to blue-green. It is a kind of beryl (a mineral) which is famous beryl called emerald.
Jade: An opaque semiprecious gemstone which is usually found in shades of green, but can be also be found in lavender and rose shades.
Probably one of the most recognized semiprecious gemstones in existence, turquoise has been popular since prehistoric times. This stone is a hydrated aluminum copper phosphate that often contains iron.
