As well as soda and lime, most common glass has other ingredients added to change its properties.

I prefer to dissolve ordinary household baking soda in a bucket of warm water the immerse your specimens in it (after a brief pre-rinse). Let them sit in the baking soda solution for 15 minutes, then proceed with washing.

The jewelers would use diluted ammonia to clean the gems but when cleaning at home it can be replaced with a mild cleanser or one pinch of cooking soda. Also special jewelry cleanser is easily accessible in the market.

With lime (calcium oxide) and soda (which yields sodium oxide) we get soda-lime glass (common window glass). Lead oxide being added to the mixture a dense, very brilliant, but soft glass (flint glass) results.

Core-forming and wound-bead flamework involved the use of a "beehive" furnace; a wood combustion source; molten sand, soda ash, and lime, heated in a ceramic crucible; ...

Feldspar: A family of minerals which are all silicates of alumina with either potash, soda, or lime.

Line the bowl with foil, add jewelry, cover with boiling water, and sprinkle with baking soda. The baking soda should start to bubble and the tarnish will settle on the aluminum. When the water cools and the bubbling stops, the piece should be shiny.

It is essentially a silicate of alumina and soda. Scapolite is also called Wernerite, named after the German Geologist A.G. Werner. Scapolite is typically an altered form of plagioclase feldspars found in metamorphic rocks.

Albite: A common white feldspar composed of a silicate of alumina and soda. It is a common constituent of granite and of various igneous rocks.

** If the crystals develop a powdery coating as they dry, soak them in a baking soda solution of about 1/3 cup to a gallon of water then rinse well.

The production of full lead crystal begins by combining proportionate amounts of quartz and soda, potash and lead oxide, which are then subjected to extremely high heat until molten.

For example, nitratine (or soda niter; NaNO3) and the carbonate calcite (CaCO3) are isostructural and possess the same rhombohedral cleavage.

Never use Ultra sonic cleaners with pearls. Never use detergent, baking soda, bleaches or ammonia based cleaner to clean pearl jewelry. Pearl jewelry such as necklaces or bracelets should be restrung periodically.

Scapolite is commonly a mineral of metamorphic origin. It is grayish white which occurs in tetragonal crystals and in cleavable masses. For such color, it is sometimes also called Wernerite. It is a silicate of alumina and soda.

The carbonates contain CO32- as the dominant polyanion in which C4+ is sur rounded by three O2- anions in a planar triangular arrangement. A familiar example is calcite (CaCO3). Because NO3- shares this geometry, the nitrate minerals such as soda ...
