A Soude is actually a three piece assembled gem--> a triplet. The top and bottom layers are made of colorless synthetic spinel created by the inexpensive flame fusion process.

Emerald Simulants & Soude Emerald
Simulated emeralds (simulants) made of glass or quartz are doublets or triplets with a transparent layer of green gelatin sandwiched between. These simulants are known as "soude emerald.
All green pastes, most soude emeralds, green sapphire and most tourmalines will show no red through the filter.
Blue gems in which cobalt is the coloring agent also appear red through the CCF.
