The modern asscher cut diamond is similar to a square emerald cut, usually with larger step facets, a higher crown, and a smaller table. This combination often produces more brilliance than the emerald cut.
' It usually is rectangular, but sometimes is square, in which case it is known as a square emerald cut. It has rows (steps) of elongated facets on the crown and pavilion, parallel to the girdle, with sets on each of four sides and at the corners.
An Asscher is a variation of an emerald cut, known on a GIA Report as a "modified square emerald cut". It features a small table, high crown, deep pavilion and cut corners characteristics that put its sparkle on par with the brilliant cut diamond.
The Emerald Cut Diamond is a classic Step Cut Rectangular Diamond (if it's Square, it's called a Square Emerald Cut). This Cut of Diamond doesn't have the Brilliance or Sparkle of a Brilliant Cut Diamond.
