The name "Stainless Steel" originates from the fact that this particular steel alloy is impervious to staining, inhibiting corrosion or rust that normally would occur with ordinary high-strength/low-alloy (HSLA) or carbon steel.

Along with the fact that stainless steel is super strong and resistant to deterioration, another nice point about it is that when it comes to jewelry findings stainless steel is hypoallergenic. This is good news for those with allergies to some other types of metals.

Stainless steel jewelry is slightly similar in appearance to silver. It is harder than silver and will not tarnish which is why it is increasingly used in jewelry.
