The musician, Ismenias, purse-proud and ostentatious, heard of an emerald engraved with the figure of the nymph Amymone, obtainable in Cyprus for six gold staters (about $30.65).

1 grams of electrum was made into one stater (meaning "Standard"). A stater was about one month's pay for a soldier.

7-grams, with each being valued at 1/3 of a stater, or "standard." Three of these electrum coins totaled approximately one month's pay for a Lydian soldier.
