LOS, or potassium sulfide, is a chemical coloring agent used to put a patina on metal. In this case, the metal is fired and finished Precious Metal Clay or Art Clay.

Niello - Black sulfide metal paste is fused into depressions on a metal base to produce metal inlay

Comments: contains plagioclase, anorthite, labradorite - bytownite, orthopyroxene, with some olivine, magnetite, ilmenite, apatite, chromite, and sulfide. It also rarely contains biotite, hornblende and cordierite. Can be found in San Diego,CA.

selenides subgroup Group of sulfides the contain one or more true metals combined with the semi-metal selenium. selvage The area of the point of contact between a vein and the surrounding rock.

Historically mistaken for gold, pyrite is actually iron sulfide and has an opaque, shiny, metallic luster. Though very brittle, the gemstone is harder than gold and leaves a greenish-black streak, while gold leaves a golden-yellow one.

Metals of the center and right-hand side of the periodic table (e.g. Cu, Zn, Sb, As, Pb, Sn, Cd, Hg, Ag) most commonly occur in sulfide minerals and are termed the chalcophile elements.

The silver sulfide can be removed with a proprietary cleaning product and gentle abrasion. A thin deposit of a dirt which discolors the surface of metal and is easily removed.

Pyrite is composed of iron sulfide. When found in its raw state, pyrite crystals can be shaped as cubes, octahedrons and pyritohedrons (12 faces). Twinning causes “iron crosses' that look like interpenetrating cubes.

Chemical composition -- Iron sulfide. Often confused with pyrite or fool's gold, a slightly denser form of iron sulfide that crystallizes in the isometric (cubic) system.
Color -- Whitish to brassy yellow. Gradually darkens on exposure to air.

It is a dulling effect that naturally occurs when silver reacts with sulfur or hydrogen sulfide in ambient air. It is important to clear tarnish before it causes rust or any harm to your jewelry.

Cinnabar A soft stone composed of mercury sulfide, cinnabar is bright or brick red in color and is often carved in intricate fashion.

American southwestern turquoise is associated with weathered by-products of copper sulfide deposits in or around potassium feldspar bearing porphyritic intrusives.

Care should also be taken to prevent silver tarnish build-up, a dulling that naturally occurs when silver reacts with sulfur or hydrogen sulfide in the ambient air. To clean your silver, use polishes formulated specifically to remove tarnish.

Gaspeite is found around nickel sulfide deposits and is named for the locality of Gaspe Peninsula, Quebec, Canada where it was originally found. Sources are Canada and Western Australia. Hardness is 4.5 - 5 on the Mohs scale.

Matte is an intermediate product of smelting; an impure metallic sulfide mixture made by melting sulfide ore concentrates. PGM rich matte is a matte with an elevated level of platinum group metals.

Cinnabar is the mineral Mercury Sulfide. Its color ranges from cinnamon to scarlet to brick red and it can be translucent to transparent. It is often carved. Cinnabar has a hardness of 2 - 2.5 (very soft) and a specific gravity of 8.1 (quite heavy).

Iron oxidizes when exposed to air and moisture, forming iron oxide (rust). Silver oxidizes (tarnishes, turing the surface black) when it is exposed to hydrogen sulfide in the air (forming Ag2S, silver sulfide).

Dusted - A finely powdered and sifted natural sulfide of lead which was applied to ceramic surfaces.

Cinnabar: A mineral. Mercury Sulfide, bright scarlet to brick red in color.

Also a reaction between metals and other chemicals which discolors the surface, particularly silver which reacts with sulfur. The silver sulfide can be removed with a proprietary cleaning product and gentle abrasion.

Sulfur: An abundant, pale yellow, nonmetallic element used in black gunpowder, rubber vulcanization, the manufacture of insecticides and pharmaceuticals, and in the preparation of sulfur compounds such as hydrogen sulfide and sulfuric acid.

Gold is also found in tellurides and ore containing quartz wherein it is either visible, or enclosed in particles of sulfide minerals such as chalcopyrite, pyrrhotite, pyrite, and arsenopyrite.

Shubnikov, discovered and perfected the process between 1924 and 1936. Currently, the method is used primarily for growing nongem halide, sulfide, and various metallic oxide crystals, one of the metallic oxides being aluminum oxide or sapphire.

Just like color less diamonds, they are of great hardness that amounts to 10 in the Mohs's scale of hardness. They are full of criss-crossing scratch marks containing black deposits of Sulfides which are responsible for their opaque texture.

What to collect, I believe, is a personal choice; it can be influenced by your home country or state or a place you visited on a trip, it can be a classification or type of mineral such as tourmaline, rare minerals, sulfides, corundum— ...
