Girdle Width equals 100%
The Girdle plays another huge role in the Diamond's Proportions. It's used to measure the rest of the Diamond with. Since the Girdle is the widest part of the Diamond, it's given the ultimate width of 100%.

Width and depth play a huge role in the way light travels in the gem. A well cut diamond can create a beautiful brilliance, and a poorly cut diamond may appear dull.

The width of the Great Chrysanthemum diamond is twenty-five millimeters and lengthwise it measures around thirty-nine millimeters. The depth of this unusual diamond comes around 16.2mm.

The width and depth have the greatest effect on how light travels within the diamond, and how it exits in the form of brilliance.
Too Shallow: Light is lost out the bottom causing the diamond to lose brilliance.

Girdle width will vary between greater extremes on some fancy shapes compared to the round brilliant.

Length-to-width ratio: A comparison of how much longer a diamond is than it is wide. It is used to analyze the outline of fancy shapes only; it is never applied to round diamonds.

Length to Width Adjustments (LWA) In calculating weight estimation of elongated fancy shapes, the LWA value is inserted in the formula. It varies depending on the length to width ratio.

The length-to-width ratio of the heart can vary. The best ratio for you will depend on your personal preferences so do your shopping to determine what you like best.

Diameter: The width of the diamond measured with reference to the girdle.
Pavilion: The lower section of a diamond from the girdle to the culet.
Culet: The tip of a diamond (the best culet is invisible to the naked eye).

Table spread: The width of a table facet.
Tension setting: A setting that uses no prongs to secure the diamond in place. Instead it presses either side of the band against the diamond, giving the illusion that the stone is floating.

While the length to width ratio of classic pear shaped diamonds is 1.40-1.70, personal preference will again dictate choice.
