Yellow Tourmaline ...
Yellow Tourmalines - It was first found in the mines of East Africa. The gemstones acquired from Malawi in Africa possess brilliant clarity thus are named as 'Canary'.
A bright yellow tourmaline from Zambia’s Lundazi area is termed canary tourmaline. Tourmaline very occasionally displays the cat’s eye effect.
This outstanding suite of two canary-yellow tourmalines from Malawi, along with a fine Nigerian spessartine garnet (center), won Meg Berry yet another award, this one in the 2002 AGTA Cutting Edge contest.
As far as color goes the material might be yellow quartz, or yellow beryl, or yellow zircon, or yellow tourmaline (Ceylon type). Many of the yellowish tourmalines have a decidedly greenish cast (greenish yellow chrysoberyl might resemble these also).
The name "tsilaisite" (from the Malagasy word "tsilai") was proposed for an idealized manganese-rich end-member in the family of tourmaline, although it has never actually been found. One of the deposits for a yellow tourmaline which came the closest ...
