Abatement in Pleading
Abatement in Pleading, or plea in abatement, was the defeating or quashing of a particular action by some matter of fact, such as a defect in form or the personal incompetency of the parties suing, pleaded by the defendant.

ABATEMENT OF A FREEHOLD - The entry of a stranger after the death of the ancestor, and before the heir or devisee takes possession, by which the rightful possession of the heir or devisee is defeated.

Abatement : Reducing the degree or intensity of, or eliminating, pollution.
Absorption : The penetration of atoms, ions, or molecules into the bulk mass of a substance.

Abatement A reduction in some amount that is owed, usually granted by the person to whom the debt is owed. For example, a landlord might grant an abatement in rent.

Abatement: Reduction or rebate of an amount owed, usually by agreement with the person to whom the debt is owed. Debts or claims may be abated pro rata if there is not enough money to meet them all.

Abatement of nuisance
As an alternative to an action, self help is accepted. For example by cutting off overhanging tree branches.

Tax Abatement: A reduction, decrease, or diminution of taxes owed, often for a fixed period of time.

Tax Credit: A "dollar for dollar" reduction on taxes owed.
