ADJOURNMENT IN CONTEMPLATION OF DISMISSAL - A program handled in Court in which a defendant essentially is put on a quasi-probation for a set period of time (six months to one year) and his or her case does not go to trial during that time.

Adjournment - The postponing or putting off of a case or session of court until another time or place.
Adjudicate - To determine judicially.

ADMINISTRATOR: Person appointed to oversee the handling of an estate when there is no will.
ADVANCE DIRECTIVE: see living will.

ADJOURNMENT - Postponing or rescheduling a case or court session until another date or time. In some jurisdictions, this is called a "continuance.

An adjournment to a date which is set to be "peremptory" means that ther matter will go ahead on that date with no further applications for adjournment to be granted.

The adjournment of a cause, case or hearing from one day to another is called a continuance, amd a record of same is entered in the record.

recess
n. a break in a trial or other court proceedings or a legislative session until a certain date and time. Recess is not to be confused with "adjournment," which winds up the proceedings.

Continuance - The adjournment or postponement of an action pending in court.
Contract - An agreement between two or more persons to do or not to do a particular thing- a meeting of the minds with a consideration.
