BREVE - A writ in which the cause of action is briefly stated, hence its name.
Breve. Latin. A writ; literally, short, brief. Also, an original writ. Plural, brevia. Brief. French bref: Latin brevis, short. A concise statement; an epitome; an abridgment.
BREVET. In France, a brevet is a warrant granted by the government to authorize an individual to do something for his own benefit, as a brevet d'invention, is a patent to secure a man a right as inventor.
