(phr) Carnal knowledge is the sexual intercourse between a man and women by penetrating vagina with penis with mutual consent outside a marriage relationship.

n. from Latin carnalis for "fleshly:" sexual intercourse between a male and female in which there is at least some slight penetration of the woman's vagina by the man's penis.

CARNAL KNOWLEDGE, crim. law. This phrase is used to signify a sexual connexion; as, rape is the carnal knowledge of a woman, &c. See Rape.

Unlawful carnal knowledge of a female by a male by force, against her will and without her consent.

Rape: the carnal knowledge of a female forcibly and against her will, is incapable to give consent due to mental disorder, developmental or physical disability, intoxication, or unconsciousness, or if the act is committed by trickery.

The carnal knowledge of a woman forcibly and against her will. 4 Bl. Com. 210; Commonwealth v. Fogerty, 8 Gray 490 (1857); 143 Mass. 37; 11 Ark. 409; 9 Fla. 182; 52 Ind. 187; 25 Mich. 359; 14 Neb. 207; 11 Nev. 257; 20 Tex. App. 155; 22 Wis. 415.

This crime consists in the carnal knowledge of a woman forcibly and against her will. The proofs of rape apart from the consistency of the woman's story, mainly depend on the presence of marks of violence, stains, &c.

At one time, the unlawful carnal knowledge of an unmarried person with another, whether the latter be married or unmarried. When the party is married, the offence, as to him or her, is known by the name of adultery.

The common-law crime of rape involved a man having carnal knowledge of a woman not his wife through force and against her will, and required at least slight penetration of the penis into the vagina.
