On an ordinary cheque, the name preceded by the words "pay to the order of" identifies the payee.
Payor: Person who makes a payment on a cheque or bill of exchange.

In the law of taxation it refers to any contribution in cash or cheque to a non profit organisation which has been qualified to receive charity. Such organisation can be religious, artistic, acedamic, scientific, charity etc.

Bill of Exchange:
A legal document, such as a cheque, where one person in writing specifies that a third party will pay a person a specific sum of money at a specific time, or upon demand.

Remember, your opponent will not be sending you a cheque directly, payment will be made to your solicitor (the same as selling a house) and he will issue you the remaining balance once his fees have been taken.
