Circuit Court 1) The name used for the principal trial court in many states. 2) In the federal system, the term may refer to courts within the 13 circuits.

 


Circuit Courts
It refers to many very low level courts located at different places but in the same juridiction or having same common laws.

Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit (CAFC or Fed. Cir.): A U.S. court to which an applicant for patent can appeal a decision of the USPTO Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences.

Circuit. A division of country visited by a judge for the dispensing of justice, as for the trial of causes; also, the periodical journey itself.

Circuit Court - The trial court of general jurisdiction in Michigan.

CIRCUIT COURT. The name of a court of the United States, which has both civil and criminal jurisdiction. In several of the states there are courts which bear this name. Vide Courts of the United States.

Track Circuit: An electrical circuit of which the rails of the track form a part. The track circuit is the basis of signaling systems.
Track Gauge: The distance between the inner faces of the track heads. Nominally, 4' 8.5".

preliminary hearing - A probable cause hearing in Circuit Court which screens felony criminal cases by deciding whether there is enough evidence to warrant a trial in the District Court.

circuit courts of appeals usually use panels of 3 judges, but all the judges in the court may decide certain matters together. When that happens, they are sitting "en banc" (sometimes spelled "in banc"). It comes from French and means "on the bench.

LETTERS TESTAMENTARY - A document issued by the circuit court that gives an executor the power to take control of and distribute a deceased person's property.
LIABILITY - Any legal responsibility, duty or obligation.

Supreme Court but higher than the U.S. District Court. Its function is to review the final decisions of the district courts, if challenged. There is a Court of Appeals for the circuit in each of the judicial circuits.
