Comity is the legal doctrine under which countries recognize and enforce each others' legal decrees. Comity usually arises in two situations in family law. The first is where a divorce is granted by another country.

Respect, courtesy and adoption or enforcement of laws of one country or one jurisdiction by another. The ruling and application of law of one can be made applicable for cases which both have the rights to handle.

COMITY
The principle by which the courts of one jurisdiction may consent to the laws or decisions of another. The comity of nations refers to the recognition accorded by one nation to the laws and institutions of another.

COMITY: A code of etiquette that governs the interactions of courts in different states, localities and foreign countries. Courts generally agree to defer scheduling a trial if the same issues are being tried in a court in another jurisdiction.

COMITY OF STATES: The practice by which the courts of one state recognize the laws and judicial decisions of another state.
