Family Farmers and Chapter Twelve
In 1986, responding to an economic farm crisis in the United States, Congress designed chapter twelve to apply to family farmers whose aggregate debts did not exceed $1.5 million.

In the year ending June 30, 1992, 972,490 bankruptcy petitions were filed, and 857,286 cases were terminated.

Reorganization bankruptcy for family farmers is called Chapter 12.
Berne convention
An international treaty that standardizes basic copyright protection among all of the signatory countries, which currently number over 100.

For consumers, reorganization bankruptcy is called Chapter 13. Reorganization bankruptcy for consumers with an extraordinary amount of debt and for businesses is called Chapter 11. Reorganization bankruptcy for family farmers is called Chapter 12.
