The descent of son or daughter with regard to his or her father, mother, and their ancestors.

 


Filiation. The relation or tie between a child and its parent, especially its father; also, ascertainment of paternity, affiliation. Affiliation. Judicial determination of paternity - that a man is the father of a bastard. See Filius.

filiation action Action in which a man is alleged to be the father of a child, and that he has a duty to support the child; also called a paternity action.

Paternity and Affiliation
These are often matters of great doubt. A considerable time may elapse between the absence or death of a father and the birth of his reputed child.

The dealing is without any affiliation towards each other and is strictly as business deal, it is called arm's length transaction.

Conference: an affiliation for ship-owners operating over the same route(s) who agree to charge uniform rates and other terms of carriage. A conference is "closed" if one can enter only by the consent of existing members of the conference.
