Forum non conveniens is Latin for "inconvenient forum."
Although there are rules which govern where a lawsuit must be filed, sometimes the location is inconvenient for the witnesses or parties.

 


forum non conveniens: a judge-made doctrine pertaining to venue, allowing a court to refuse to hear a case even if jurisdiction and venue requirements are met. This concept has been largely superseded in the federal courts by statute, 28 U.S.C.

FORUM NON CONVENIENS -- A court’s power to decline to exercise its jurisdiction in a case because the convenience of the parties and/or the interests of justice would be better served if the case were tried in another court.

FORUM CONVENIENS
Convenient forum
The court is convenient to hear a case and has jurisdiction. The doctrine of forum non conveniens ("inconvenient forum") allows a court to refurse to adjudicate a case on grounds of inconvenience.
