Impeach: To impeach a witness is to introduce evidence intended to contradict testimony or to question his credibility.

Impeachment is a formal process in which an elected official is accused of unlawful activity, and which may or may not lead to the removal of that official from office. It is the first of two stages.

Impeachment is a trial held before Parliament of someone who is charged with a crime against the State. It is usually a charge against a public official.

Impeach
To sue, accuse or dispute. Contradicting the statement of the the witness by providing another statement by someone or bringing in the evidence of happening outside the court.

In the case of an impeachment, the House of Commons was prosecutor and the House of Lords judge; but such bills being legislative in form, the consent of crown, lords and commons was necessary to pass them.

Dunn requires that counsel put a matter to a witness involving the witness personally if counsel is later going to present contradictory evidence, or is going to impeach the witness' credibility.
