Indeterminate Sentence
A sentence given by the presiding judge to a convict , which does not have a specific period or a date of release of the convict after serving the sentence. The sentence can be like "10 to 15 years" as a range and not specific.

indeterminate sentence
n. the prison term imposed after conviction for a crime which does not state a specific period of time or release date, but just a range of time, such as "five-to-ten years.

indeterminate sentence - An indefinite sentence of imprisonment, within a specified range (e.g. "5 to life") with the Board of Pardons later determining the exact term to be served.

An indeterminate sentence is a sentence for an indefinite time, with the exact time determined by parole authorities.

By contrast, an indeterminate sentence (such as 20 years to life) has a minimum term but the release date, if any, will be chosen by a parole board as it periodically reviews the case. Compare: indeterminate sentence ...

If granted, the designation carries an automatic indeterminate sentence with no chance of parole for seven years.

This is often done by specifying an indeterminate sentence of, say, "15 to 25 years," or "15 years to life".
