Inquest
A judicial inquiry put forward by a county officer or judicial officer incases where there has been mysterious deaths or accidents and which has violence involved too.

Inquest
An inquiry by a coroner into the manner of death in a possible homicide case; a tribunal selected to inquire into selected factual matters.

inquest: a proceeding which usually is a limited non-jury trial for the purpose of fixing the amount of damages where the plaintiff or defendant alone introduces testimony.

INQUEST. A body of men appointed by law to inquire into certain matters; as, the inquest examined into the facts connected with the alleged murder; the grand jury, is sometimes called the grand inquest.

INQUEST -- A legal inquiry generally before a court of law but in some instances before certain other officers legally empowered to hold inquiries, such as by a medical examiner investigating a death.

Inquest
In New York, an inquest is a trial or hearing in which only one side may present a case. The defaulting party may not offer any evidence, however, they are permitted to cross examine opposing witnesses and oppose any evidence offered.

coroner's inquest An examination into the causes and circumstances of a death resulting from violence or under suspicious circumstances, held by the county coroner or medical examiner.
