Jus Cogens
"Latin meaning "compelling law." This "higher law" may not be violated by any country. For example, genocide or slave trade may be considered to go against jus cogens.

JUS COGENS
Universal peremptory norms, while not defined in any treaty, include those "higher laws" which no country may disregard. If part of a treaty violates jus cogens, then the entire treaty invalidated.

Jus cogens
Principles of international law so fundamental that no nation may ignore them or attempt to contract out of them through treaties.
For example, genocide and participating in a slave trade are thought to be jus cogens.
