MARSHAL (med. Lat. marescalcus, from O.H.Ger. marsh, horse, and scale, servant), a title given in various countries to certain military and civil officers, usually of high rank.

1) n. a court official who may serve papers and act as a law enforcement officer in keeping order in court, protecting officials, making arrests or participating in court-ordered police activities. 2) n.
