Under the Companies Act 1985 shares may be issued by the company to shareholders in return for cash or other value equal to or greater than its nominal value.

 


In the stock market, par value is the nominal value of stock; it is calculated by dividing the total stated capital stock by the number of shares authorized.

It refers to an equivalence between the market price and the nominal or face value of stocks,bonds,bills of exchange.Stocks when sold at nominal value are at par, above par for a higher value and below par for a lower value.

"A non-trading co-operative must not give returns or distributions on surplus or share capital to members other than the nominal value of shares (if any) at winding up." ...

PAR, comm. law. Equal. It is used to denote a state of equality or equal value. Bills of exchange, stocks, and the like, are at par when they sell for their nominal value; above par, or below par, when they sell for more or less.

The minimum nominal value of shares, where the company's capital is less than 200,000 fcs., is 25 fcs.; where the capital is more than 200,000 fcs., 100 fcs.
