Release On Own Recognizance: An alternative to bail; release upon certain conditions set by the court.

own recognizance - the act of releasing an arrestee from custody without requiring that he post a bond or security.

OWN RECOGNIZANCE: Sometimes called personal recognizance. A person who promises to appear in court to answer criminal charges can sometimes be released from jail without having to pay bail.

Generally, when there is no good reason to suppose the accused in a criminal case will not appear when required or the accused is not a significant risk to the community, he or she will be released on his or her own recognizance.
