WORD, construction. One or more syllables which when united convey an idea a single part of speech.

The word "attorney" alone does not neccessarily import that the person is an officer of a court;1 but, standing unqualified, ordinarily it refers to an attorney-at-law.

Transfer cases
Cases going from one court or one jurisdiction to another.

The word refers specifically to the British Monarch, where she is the head of state of Commonwealth countries. Prosecutions and civil cases taken (or defended) by the government are taken in the name of the Crown as head of state.

Session is the word used to describe the Parliamentary year. A session begins with the State Opening of Parliament, usually in November, and finishes the following November when Parliament is formally prorogued.

Sanction
A word with two contradictory meanings. To "sanction" can mean to ratify or to approve but it can also mean to punish. The "sanction" of a crime refers to the actual punishment, usually expressed as a fine or jail term.

An encumbrance against property for money, either voluntary or involuntary.

The technical legal word for the people who are part of a court case and have a right to ask the court to make a decision on a dispute. At the trial level, the parties are typically called the plaintiff or petitioner and the defendant or respondent.

In estate law, the word may refer more specifically to a situation where property identified in a will cannot be given to the beneficiary because it had to be sold to pay off the deceased debts.

There is no better way to define this word. Only by examining the reasonable man can any of us have any hope of agreeing what is reasonable and what is not. That is reasonable which the reasonable man would do or think or say, etc.

Estoppel: Rule of evidence which prevents a person from relying on facts when, by deed, word or action, he has led another person to act to his detriment on those facts. Estoppel is a defence, not a cause of action.

constructive: as an adjective, this word can mean fictional, or imposed by law, as opposed to real.

Respondent: Another word for defendant; the person responding to a lawsuit. In Juvenile court, the word refers to the person or persons named in a petition. When used in Practice Book Sec.

Record - 1. To preserve in writing, print or by film, tape, etc. 2. History or a case. 3. The word-for-word (verbatim) written or tape recorded account of all proceedings of a trial.

Any word, name, symbol, character, design, drawing or device used to identify services rendered and to distinguish them from services rendered or offered by others.
