blues (or bluelines): Photographic proofs of the printing plates for a book. Blues are reviewed as a means to inspect the set type, layout, and design of the book's pages before it goes to press.
Blueline: A printer's proof, actually blue on white paper. All AAs and corrections should have been made prior to seeing a blueline. Brightness: The reflectivity of pulp, paper or paperboard under test conditions.
