Definition: A caption can be an advertisement's headline or the text accompanying an illustration or photograph.
Closed Caption (CC) - Visual captioning on a television screen for the hearing impaired that superimposes subtitles on programs. Distributed via Line 21 of the Vertical Blanking Interval, CC requires a decoder to view it.

For example, people with vision and hearing impairments can access and understand text content and images if those items are accompanied by descriptive tags, and they can understand videos that are accompanied by text transcripts or closed captions.
Now Google (and some of its competitors) can find and read text from closed captioning scripts.
