Cost per click, which usually goes by the acronym of CPC, has two different meanings. For a search engine, the term cost per click means how much the search engine charges advertisers each time a visitor clicks on a sponsored link.

Cost Per Click
Applicable only to Web advertising. This is the fee that is paid to the Web publisher each time a visitor clicks on an ad. Abbreviated as CPC.

cost per click (CPC): Also called Pay per Click (PPC). A performance-based advertising model where the advertiser pays a set fee for every click on an ad. The majority of text ads sold by search engines are billed under the CPC model.
