Data Protection Act
A law which makes organisations responsible for protecting the privacy of personal data.

Affiliate data feeds are provided by merchants to affiliates to better promote and sell their products. Data feeds are converted into individual products and include descriptions, links for images, links for visitors to click, pricing and more.

Data Stores contain data on every aspect of the customer, and the Customer Life Cycle (CLC). For example, an organisation keeps data on the products you buy, when you buy them, and where they are sent.

Data Capture (also known as data entry)
The process of keying-in or scanning data into an electronic format.

Data Analysis - the processing of marketing research findings to summarise a situation, discover relationships between elements of the information, or to draw conclusions from them. See Marketing Research.

Data transfer - the total amount of data that a website sends out, typically measured in gigabytes (GB)

Data Card " Collection of information describing the characteristics of a mailing list.
Data Mining " Discovering patterns and relationships within customer data to reveal what customers want and how they act.

Data Feed: A text file that contains the information needed to generate a website. It is provided either directly to the affiliate or indirectly through a network.

Data Capture:
The collection, formatting and storage of information in computer memory. Some point-of-sale terminals perform data capture functions. See EDC terminal.

Data card
Information/description of a specific mailing list - source, type of buyers, titles (if appropriate), recency of list, prices, selection options, etc. Available from brokers or list owners.

Data-based budget setting: setting advertising or marketing budgets using methods that do not involve guesswork or arbitrary figures. The two main methods are competitive parity, and objective and task.

Data Collection Company
The enterprise or agency that supplies trained interviewers for clients and receives payment for services delivered.

data protection The prevention of the passing of an individual's personal information from one computer system where the information legitimately resides to other computer systems without the consent of the individual.

Data Collection - the activity of gathering facts or information about a subject in a marketing research study.
Database - information arranged in such a way that it can be stored in, and processed by a computer.

Scanner data is, at the present time, only available for certain grocery item product categories-e.g., food items, beverages, cleaning items, laundry detergent, paper towels, and toilet paper.

Raw Data Feed - Raw data is information that has been collected but not formatted, analyzed or processed. This raw data can be used to build an optimized XML feed.

Demographics Data about the size and characteristics of an audience.
Domain Keys Email authentication system designed to verify the DNS domain of an email sender and the message integrity.

Google Trends data is presented in a line graph. The horizontal axis represents time and the vertical axis shows how often a term is searched for. Data can be broken down further by region, city and language.

Search engine indexing is the process of a search engine collecting, parses and stores data for use by the search engine. The actual search engine index is the place where all the data the search engine has collected is stored.

Spam - Can refer to unwanted data sent via email or put on a Web site to game a search engine.

You should also gather quantitative data such as information about the competition's gross revenues, ownership, number of employees, legal issues, new products, industry awards and relevant trade articles.
