[edit] Googlebot Googlebot is a search bot used by Google. It collects documents from the web to build a searchable index for the Google search engine.

 


Googlebot: Google uses several user-agents to crawl and index content in the Google.com search engine. Googlebot describes all Google spiders.

Googlebot: A Google software program, often referred to as a "spider," designed to continually discover and index new Internet content to keep current Google's search engine database and search results returned to users.

GoogleBot is probably the most well-known spider working the web today. It is also likely among the most analyzed applications ever written. On one level, GoogleBot is quite simple and can be depended on to act in a very specific manner.

The process of delivering specific web pages to a search engine spider by means of the spider's agent name. For example, the agent name of Google's search engine spider is Googlebot.
