Hard bounce - A returned to sender email message because the recipient?s address is invalid. A hard bounce might occur because the domain name doesn't exist or because the recipient is unknown.

Hard Bounce
A hard bounce is the failed delivery of an e-mail due to a permanent reason, such as a non-existent e-mail address.

Hard bounce A hard bounce describes the permanent non-delivery of an e-mail message, because it was sent to a non-existent address, or an address that is now obsolete.

A hard bounce represents a specifically addressed email that, for whatever reason, never left the transmitting server.

Bounces can happen for myriad reasons including: an incorrect e-mail address, the recipient's mailbox is full, the server is down, or the system detects spam or offensive content. Also see Soft Bounce and Hard Bounce.

They could be "soft bounces" due to temporary issues such as a full mailbox, or "hard bounces" from an invalid email account, but for our purposes here it means "people on your list who did not receive your message".
