MSA (Metropolitan Statistical Area): A freestanding metropolitan area surrounded by nonmetropolitan counties and not closely associated with other metropolitan areas. Each MSA is grouped by population size and coded using government FIP codes.
Metropolitan Statistical Area - Defined by the Office of Management and Budget. It has a large population nucleus, together with adjacent communities that have a high degree of economic and social integration with that nucleus.
Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) An urban area with a population of at least 50,000 that is designated by the Office of Management and Budget for statistical reporting purposes and used in audience measurement studies.
census tract A small, relatively permanent area (US) into which metropolitan statistical areas (MSAs) and certain other area are divided for the purpose of providing statistics for small areas.
Metro Area A U.S. Government definition; the counties that comprise each Standard Metropolitan Statistical Area.
metro area - The central metropolitan core of a market, equivalent to the Standard Metropolitan Statistical Area as defined by the U.S. Office of Management and Budget.
