Categorize needs. Abraham Maslow, a founder of humanistic psychology, came up with five basic groups of consumer needs. They're referred to as Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs.

 


universal needs Needs that are the same all over the world, such as steel, bulk chemicals, and industrial electronics.

value creation Performing activities that increase the value of goods or services to consumers.

the desire of humans for safety, shelter, security and warmth, see Maslow's hierarchy of needs

Esteem Needs - the desire to feel important in the eyes of others.
Evaluative Criteria - features of a supplier, product, etc. considered by a buyer when choosing between alternatives; evaluative criteria may be objective or subjective.

Needs-economic, functional, psychological, social.
Benefits--quality, service, economy, convenience, speed.
Attitude toward product--Enthusiastic, positive, indifferent, negative, hostile.

Needs/benefits sought by market
Product usage
Consider answers to these questions related to customers using the product such as:
who is using the product?
why do they use the product?
when do they use the product?
how is the product used?

The firm needs to identify the business it is in. Here, a balance must be made so that the firm's scope is not defined too narrowly or too broadly. A firm may define its goal very narrowly and then miss opportunities in the market place.

Highlight in this section your brand, analyzing your audience’s perception and attitude towards your company and its products and services.
